The Mail and Breeze [Topeka, KS], 17 May 1901, Friday
Death has claimed another this time--one who has passed the four score mark. Mrs. Elizabeth Zirkle was born in Virginia in 1817 and died May 7, 1901. In her youth she moved to Ohio and married in 1835. In 1872 she moved to Kansas where she spent the remainder of her life here. She was the mother of five children, three of whom live in Monmouth township. They are Mrs. William Zirkle, Jerry Zirkle and Silas Zirkle, the last with whom she has made her home the greater part of the time since the death of her husband. She had 37 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. In early life she united with the Evangelical Lutheran church and was a consistent member for 52 years and died as she had lived, a faithful Christian. The funeral was held at Pleasant Hill church on the following day. Rev. Williams officiated. The pallbearers were six of her grandsons, and the interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
