Canton, IL - Vera R. Elliott, 99, of Canton passed away at 5:25 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2007, at Heartland Health Care in Canton.

Born in Canton on June 27, 1907, to (George) Henry and Clara Mae (Ehresman) Rock, she married Avery K. "Red" Elliott on June 15, 1930, in Elmhurst, Ill. He died on May 25, 1968.

Surviving are a son, Justin (Sharon) Elliott of Canton; a son-in-law, Neil Aldrich of Canton; three grandchildren, Connie (Craig) Weissman of Arlington Heights, Debbie Weaver of Lake Camelot and Jackie (Tony) Groves of Canton; five step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, AJ Weissman of Arlington Heights and Ashley Groves of Canton; and several step great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Jean Aldrich; two brothers; and three sisters.

Vera and her husband operated a Gamble Store in Rushville from the late 1930s to the early 1950s, at which time they began farming. She was a grade school teacher at several rural schools in both Fulton and Schuyler counties, retiring from Pritchard-Clark Elementary School in 1972.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date, with burial in Foster Cemetery.
