Canton, IL - Avery Justin Elliott, 71, of Canton passed from this life on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Aug. 21, 1940, in Rushville to Avery K. "Red" and Vera G. (Rock) Elliott. They preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Anita Jean Aldrich.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Sharon Elaine (nee Baker) Sandford.

Justin was the loving father of three daughters, Connie (Craig) Weissman of Arlington Heights, Debbie (Brion) McDonald of Hanna City and Jackie (Tony) Groves of Canton and the proud grandfather of AJ Weissman and Ashley Groves. He will be fondly remembered by three stepchildren, Mark Sandford, Becky (Rick) Chaney and Albert Michael (Deanna) Sandford; several step grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren.

He attended Brown's Business College in Springfield, Ill., where he studied accounting.

While living in Springfield, he worked for Dawson Lumber Company and Allis Chalmers. In 1965, he relocated his family to Canton to operate the family farm. He farmed for over 40 years, and he worked at and operated Central Butane Gas Company for over 20 years. Additionally, he enjoyed construction work and was involved in the building of several homes, including his own on the family farm.

Upon his retirement in 2005, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling, attending auctions and sales, researching family genealogy, spending time with family and friends, fishing and mushrooming.

Justin was a member of the First Christian Church of Canton and Farmington Moose Lodge No. 1571. He was a Joshua Township Official for 30 years and served on the Farm Service Agency.

There will be a private graveside service at a later date, with burial in Foster Cemetery.
