He started out as a schoolteacher and met his wife while teaching. Most of his life was spent as a justice of the peace in Salisbury Township in Lancaster County, PA. He is listed in the book "A History of Salisbury Township in Lancaster County". He is referenced in "Biographical Annals of Lancaster County".

His eldest daughter, Eliza, married John Miller. John and Eliza are buried right beside her father and mother in this same cemetery.

John's will was written in 1851 where he listed his children by name. The will was written with a very similar style to his father John Myers, Sr. The executor was son, John B

A three part series written by Jane Best regarding the Bear/Bar family also mentions Catherine, his wife.

Three of his children (Abner, Jacob and Mary Ann) moved away in the late 1840s and early 1850s as can be seen by their burial locations shown on Find A Grave.

Daughter Catherine married J G Robison who was the brother of Samuel L Robison who married another daughter Mary Ann.
Samuel L's story is listed on page 767 of the book "History of Champaign County, Ohio where he was a prominent citizen and businessman

John appeared in the US Census of 1870 for the last time with his wife. His name was written incorrectly as Alyers. His age was listed as 89. He lived in Salisbury township beside Samuel Mast who was a brother of his son-in-law Abraham Mast. Samuel acquired his house after Catherine's (his wife) death.
