He was the son of John Myers and Catherine Bear Myers of Salisbury Township Lancaster PA. He is mentioned in his father's will Y-2-252 proved on 23 Nov 1871 - "I give and bequeath to my dear wife Catherine .... and our eight surviving children namely Abner, John B., Jacob, Eliza wife of John Miller Jr., Henrietta wife of Ephraim Supplee, Susan wife of Joseph Bidden Jr., Mary Ann wife of Samuel S. Robinson, and Sarah our youngest...."

Abner's father was a farmer with several farms and also a Justice of the Peace. He kept meticulous records. He came from a venerable family whose roots have been traced to the 1600's.

Abner was born on March 10, 1814 and his birth date and family information is included in The History of Salisbury Township, Lancaster, PA.

In Deed Book K Volume 11 starting in page 241 is the settlement of the estate of John Myers, Esq (term used for Justice of the Peace). This is a very lengthy settlement and rather hard to read. Abner Myers, son and heir of John Myers, acknowledges receiving his share of his father's estate. He did this by appearing before a Justice of the Peace in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, one David Wilson, on 30 October 1872. His signature is witnessed and the signature of the witness is witnessed.

MYERS - It is not definitely known just when the founder of the Myers family settled in Pennsylvania, but the name is n old and honored one in Lancaster county. Different members of the family have served valiantly in wars that have racked this country, and of the three Myers brothers who served the Union cause in the civil war but one returned to his home state, the other two having been killed in battle.
(1) ___ Myers was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, and was descended from Pennsylvania Dutch stock. He was reared to maturity in Lancaster county, and there, after reaching his legal majority, was engaged in farming operations. He owned a well improved estate of one hundred and twenty-five acres, on which he was long-engaged in diversified agriculture and the rising of high grade stock. He did not take an active part in public affairs but was an ardent Whig in his political convictions. He married ___ and they had 7 children: John, who went west and there died; Mariah; Eliza; Mary; Sarah; Abner, mentioned below.
(II) Abner, youngest son of ___ Myers, was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, in 1814. He passed his boyhood and youth in his native county and there engaged in farming until 1847, when he came to Clarion county and settled on a farm of two hundred and twenty-five acres in Monroe township. He was a Republican in politics, and he and his wife are devout Presbyterians in their religious faith. Mr. Myers married Barbara Eby, whose birth occurred in Chester county; February 15, 1815, daughter of Isaac and __ (Shaffer) Eby, both of whom were natives of Chester county, where he was a farmer and extensive land owner. There were eight children in the Eby family, namely George, John, Christopher, Mary, Casse, Lyda, Catherine, Barbara. Mrs. Myers died in April, 1910. Two children: 1. Stephen D., born in 1837, died November 13, 1879; married Henrietta Mobley, and was a civil war veteran, having served for three years as a member of the Eighth Pennsylvania volunteer Infantry 2. John, born in 1840, was a member of Company C, sixty-second Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was killed in the battle of Spottsylvania Court House. 3. William H., born in 1842; was a corporal in Company C, Sixty-second Pennsylvnia Volunteer Infantry, and was killed in the battle of Gettysburg. 4. Catherine, born in 1843, married Isaac Buchanan, who was a merchant in Lancaster county at the time of his demise; she is still living in Lancaster county. 5. Clarence Alonzo, mentioned below. 6. Abner, Jr., born in 1847, died May 30, 1912; married Levina Myers; was engaged in farming. 7. Amos, born in 1840; married Mary Mohney, who is deceased; he is prominent farmer in South Carolina. 8. Isaac, born in 1851; a prominent and prosperous merchant in Butler county, Pennsylvania; he married Sarah Frampton. 9. George, born in 1853, now living retired in Pennsylvania; he served as county commissioner for a number of years; he married Frances Mohney. 10. A son, died in infancy.

MYERS Abner (10/20/1887) Abner Myers, born in Lancaster County, Pa., March 2, 1814. Died in Monroe township, Clarion county, Pa., near Curllsville, Sept. 30, 1887, aged 73 years, 6 months and 28 days. Mr. Myers removed from Lancaster county to the farm in Monroe township on which he died in the spring of 1847, coming in a "Conestoga Wagon." He was the father of eight sons and one daughter. Intensely patriotic, he gave three brave boys to uphold the Republic, Stephen D., Sergeant, Co. H., 8th Penna. Reserves, wounded in the Wilderness, May 8 1864, discharged with his Regiment, now deceased. John E., Adjutant, 62 P. V., killed at Spottsylvania, May 12, 1864; William H., Corporal, Co. C., 62 P. V., wounded at Gaine's Mills, killed at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863. In 1863 he made a visit to the front carrying with him a large quantity of boxes and packages of good and useful things for the soldiers from friends at home. A member of the Presbyterian church for over 40 years, a strictly honest, upright man and citizen, a kind neighbor esteemed by all he gently fell asleep in Jesus.

Property of Abner Myers, dec'd, situate in Monroe twp, Clarion Co., bounded on the north by the Clarion and Sligo road, on the east by the land of Philip Fox, and on the south by lands of E.M. Lee and the heirs of Andrew Lee, dec'd, and on the west by land of James Myers, containing one hundred and seventy acres, more or less.
Improvements: One frame house about 30 by 40 foot two stories high with basement; one frame house about 30 x 24 feet, two stories high; one large frame barn 50 by 65 feet with stabling complete; one other barn 30 by 40 feet; two large orchards of apple and peach trees. Land well watered and underlaid with coal and limestone.
