Mrs. Mary McFadden died at her home in Mt. Hope, Monday evening, March 21. She had been in a feeble condition for several years, due to old age. About a week ago she had a fall which was the immediate cause of her death. She was born in Cootshill, Cavin county, Ireland, June 12, 1825. She came to the United States with her parents and seven brothers and sisters in 1833 and settled in Pennsylvania. Her next home was at Cadiz, Ohio. There she joined the church and there she was married to Alexander McFadden, who died at Mt. Hope three years ago. From Ohio they moved to Illinois, then to Missouri and finally to Kansas in 1855. Her home for the past eleven years has been in Mt. Hope. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are living and five were at her funeral. Her three sons, Albert, Craig and Wallace, and her two daughters Eliza and Lulu. Her funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. F. Buck, Pastor of the Congregational church, of which she was a member, and her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Mt. Hope cemetery.
