John Craig was born April 23, 1731 in Dauphin county, PA to William Craige and Margaret Logan Long Craige. He was their eldest son. Around 1750 the family along with several other families, migrated to Orange county, North Carolina and settled in the New Hope area. John married Mary Elizabeth Blackwood ca. 1751. John served with the North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.
