Newell Hugh Bracken, age 78, passed away Aug. 4, 2002, in Orem, Utah.

He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Nephi, Utah, to Rulon Heber and Tacy Johanna Irons Bracken. He married Evelyn Blackett May 24, 1947, in Nephi. Their marriage was later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.

He graduated from Juab High School and Utah State University. He was in the ROTC at Utah State and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was Commander of the 145th Field Artillery in the Utah National Guard and retired as Lt. Col. He worked for U.S. Steel where he retired. He loved to putter around in the yard and grow beautiful gardens. He loved woodwork and built a lot of furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; 6 children, Sharon Ramos of Portland, Oregon, Laurel (Jack) Daniels of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike (Kathy) Bracken of Logan, Jennifer (Joe) Gee of Highland, Patricia (Clair) Larsen of Lindon, Gayle (Bubba) Avilla of Orem; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwain (Joyce) Bracken, Franz (JoAnna) Speters; sister, Mary (Hugh) Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glenna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in the Lindon 3rd Ward, 25 North Main. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, at 1:30 p.m.
