William Carruthers Cameron
Wm Carruthers Cameron was born on March 29, 1820 in Indiana, but his mother's name is not known at this time. His mother's maiden name could be Carruthers, there were two William Carruthers living in and around Sullivan County Indiana in 1820. Selena Mann Cameron is not his mother. Selena was born on January 1, 1810 and this would make her only 10 years old when she supposedly gave birth to Wm. Wm's real mother past away some time between 1822 and 1827. Wm C Cameron's father, James Cameron married Selena Mann on August 21, 1827 in Sullivan County Indiana.
In 1844 Wm married Catherine Scelena Kelly in Muscatine, Iowa. The Cameron family moved to Augusta, Iowa where Wm became a merchant and in 1859, he became the second family member to become a Post Master.
After the death of his first wife Catherine Scelena Kelly in 1859, Wm wed again to help in the care of his seven children. In January of 1860, Wm married Charlotte S Kelly, no relations to his first wife Catherine.
Per the Burlington Weekly Hawkeye newspaper from August 9, 1862: "Sudden Death" We learned that William C. Cameron, a well known citizen of Augusta, died very suddenly yesterday morning. He rose apparently in as good health as usual. Before seven o'clock, he was dead. Disease of the heart is supposed to have been the cause.
Wm is buried in Augusta, Iowa, but he is listed incorrectly on his father's monument as September 6, 1862 in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Inscription
"What to us is life without thee.
Darkness and despair alone,
Then with sighs we seek to find thee.
This tomb proclaims that thou art gone."
