L. E. Anthony

Leland E. Anthony, aged 42, took his own life in a moment of despondency after having completed his morning chores on New Year's Day on the Howard Payne farm in Union township, near Huntington, where he has lived the past 17 years. He placed a single barreled shotgun against his chest and fired, causing internal hemorrhages, from which he died an hour later. It is thought that despondency over his wife's ill health was the motive which caused Mr. Anthony's rash act.

Leland E. Anthony was born in the Prospect neighborhood west of Ossian, a son of Senes and Mary Powell Anthony. He was united in marriage to Viola Edgar, who survives with one son, Edgar Anthony. The parents are also living. A sister, Cressie Anthony, died 20 years ago.

Mrs. Anthony, who had been a patient in a Cincinnati sanitarium, and had only recently returned, much improved in health. She discovered the man and spread the alarm by telephone and also carried her husband from the porch into the kitchen and gave him first aid until a physician arrived.

Private funeral services will be conducted from the Funderburg funeral home at Markle Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. A. C. Wischmier and Rev. H. H. Mohler officiating. Burial will be made in the Markle cemetery.
