Burlington Free Press, Aug 9, 1916, pg. 8. Death of Theodore Hallen. The death of Theodore Hallen came Sat. night, Aug. 5, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tues. morning at St. Joseph's church, this village, at 9 o'clock. Rev. A. C. Biwer officiating. Mr. Hallen was born Aug 24, 1833, in Deeneleang, Germany. When still a young man his family moved to America and settled in Waterford and on May 27, 1861, he was married to Miss Mary Melkert, in the Catholic Church at Waterford. The first years of married life were spent in Waterford, later he moved to Burlington but the last 48 years he has been a resident of Lyons. His loving wife, Mrs. Mary Hallen preceded him in death only a short time ago--July 18, 1916. The following children survive him: Mrs. Joe Heiligenthal of Waterford; Mrs. Herman Bockhop of LaGrange, IL, Mrs. John Miller, Fox River; Mr. Henry Hallen, Mrs. Fred Vorpagel, Mrs. Fred Rieck and Mrs. Vernon Loomis of Lyons, also a brother, Godfred Hallen, of Marinette; 2 sisters and 16 grandchildren. The sisters are: Mrs. Jennie Borget of Lyons and Mrs. Christina Henningfeld of Phillips, WI. Mr. Hallen was a man of quiet, retiring disposition, kind in his family relations, a good citizen and neighbor and during the years of his residence here had won the respect of a large circle of friends.
