Spartanburg Hearld Obituary, June 27, 1956, page 2. Mrs. Pearl Massebeau Bryant of 300 S. Converse Street, died at General Hospital early Tuesday. She was the mother of the late PFC Hugh Edward Bryant who was killed in World War II. Surviving are three sons, Augustus Copeland "A. C." Bryant of Woodruff, Ernest Jesse "E. J." Bryant of Spartanburg and Sgt. William Marion Bryant, of Donaldson Air Force Base, Greenville; four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Waters, Mrs. David Davis, Mrs. Ralph McAbee and Mrs. B. J. Dillingham, all of Spartanburg; one sister, Mrs. William Hartin of Tampa, Fla; and 20 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at Duncan Memorial Methodist Church by the Revs. L. W. Smith, J. O. Gilliam and K. L. Claycomb. Burial will be in the Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be at the home after 10 a.m. today. It will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. M. W. Bobo Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
