Mrs. Edna VanHorn Whitaker of 354 East Parkway North died at 11 a.m. yesterday at her home after an illness of about a year. She was 81. Services will be at 2:30 this afternoon at National Funeral Home with Dr. John Millard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park. Mrs. Whitaker, wife of Edward G. Whitaker, was a lifelong Memphian. She was a member of the Evergreen Presbyterian Church. She was formerly organist for the Springdale Methodist Church. Mrs. Whitaker was a flower gardening enthusiast and a graduate of Miss Higbee's School for Girls. She also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn W. Clark and Mrs. Alfred D. Mason Jr., both of Memphis, and Mrs. Preston Holden Jr. of Baton Rouge, La.; two sons, Van E. Whitaker of Memphis and James A. Whitaker of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Grace V. Reeves and Miss Gertrude VanHorn, both of Memphis; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on Oct. 8, 1956)
