Services for Edward G. Whitaker of 165 Waring Road will be at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Memphis Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park. Mr. Whitaker, who was 93, died at 5 a.m. yesterday at Cage Nursing Home where he had been a patient four years. Born in Mobile, Ala., Mr. Whitaker lived in Memphis most of his life. He owned the old Whitaker-Clark Furniture Co. at Main and Poplar. He was the oldest living member of the Park Ave. Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church. His wife, Mrs. Edna Whitaker, died in 1956. He leaves two sons, Van E. Whitaker of 3776 Northwood Drive and James A. Whitaker of Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn W. Clark of 1500 Madison, Mrs. Alfred Mason of the Waring address, and Mrs. Preston Holden of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. J.O. Broome of Birmingham, and Mrs. Walter Beaton of Corsicana, Texas, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on May 12, 1965)
