Edna, youngest daughter of J. E. Yates and wife, died last Thursday night after an illness of less than a week. She had not fully recovered an attack of influenza in the winter although her appearance did not indicate that she was not in perfect health.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Bethel Church six miles northwest of Jasper, Rev. Mr. Crockett, pastor of the Church, conducting the service. Burial took place in Waters Cemetery. Deceased is survived by her parents, two sisters -- Mrs. Will Wood and Mrs. Ray Bowman -- and a brother, Ernest Yates.
Edna was born June 1, 1900, and was just 19 days past 19 years old when she died. She had lived almost if not all her life in Bethel community and was known and loved for her beautiful character and disposition. At the age of 12 she united with the Bethel M. E. Church and always took an active interest in the Church and Sunday School. The Sunday School was her special delight and she would make any sacrifice to attend. Her death leaves the whole community in deep sorrow.
