Joseph was the son of Francis Marion Moss & Nancy McMullen. He married Mary E. Ellison on 29 Nov 1881 in Wapello County, Iowa.

"Joseph Wilson, son of Francis Marion and Nancy McMullen Moss, was born October 1, 1856, near Fredric, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Avery Wednesday, March 17th, 1926, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 16 days. He spent his entire life in Monroe county, with the exception of four years residence in Ottumwa.

He united with the Friends church in the middle years of his life He was a member of the Knights of Pythias of Avery and W.0.W. of Albia. For the last twelve year he has been in business at Avery where the family has resided since 1901.

On November 29th, 1881, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Ellison. To this union were born six children, five of whom, with his wife, survive him. They are Frank B. Moss of Waukee, Mrs M.G. Youngquist of Albia, Mrs. Wm. Davis of Avery, Ann and John at home. Isaac E. preceded his father in death several years ago. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers.

The funeral services were held in Avery Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B.B. Baird, pastor of the Christian church at Albia."
