Asa was a resident of Westport, Bristol Co., Massachusetts and enlisted as a private aged 32 into Co. B, MA Inf Regt on 27 Nov 1861

His occupation was farmer; he was the son of John and Barbara ( )Synder. He married Maria E. B. Manchester daughter of Charles L. and Comfort (Lake) Manchester. They were married on Nov 8 1855 by Rev Joshua A Stetson, minister at the Stone Church of Tiverton, RI

He was a Union soldier under General John Pope at the Battle of Manassas also known to the North as the Battle of Second Bull Run on August 29-30 1862.

He was wounded during the battle and on Nov 8 1862 he died from his wounds in Washington, DC.
