Burton A. Allred, age 82, of Salina, died May 13, 2004 in Provo, Utah after a short illness.
He was born July 11, 1921 in Redmond, Utah, a son of William B. and Lillian Anderson Allred. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1941. He attended and graduated from the Samuel Gompens Trade School in San Franciso, CA in 1943. Burton joined the Navy and served as Motor Machinist Mate First Class from 1943 to 1946. He married Leween Deaton, February 1, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, June 29, 1965.
Burton was active in the LDS Church, serving as 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric and in the Young Men's Presidency; a Home Teacher and in the High Priest Quorum. He was a member of the Salina American Legion Post #36. Burton worked for 29 years at Georgia Pacific Gypsum Plant in Sigurd as a machinist and he worked for 10 years at SUFCO Coal Mine as a machinist and a welder. In his younger years, Burton enjoyed playing baseball and was an excellent pitcher. He loved farming, fishing, hunting, golfing, spending time with his family and working in his shop.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leween, of Salina; their children: Susan (Gary) Carlisle of Redmond; Devon (Susan) Allred of Salina; 10 grandchildren: Daniel (Aleece) Allred of Salina; Alica (Kim) Vest of Enoch; Landon Boone Allred of St. George; Kasey (Theresa) Bosshardt, Kurt (Sue Ann) Bosshardt, all of Redmond; Mark Bosshardt of Salina; Charles Bosshardt, Kevin Bosshardt, Tyler Carlisle and Trevor Carlisle, all of Redmond; six great-grandchildren: Taylor Allred, Chase Allred, Riley Bosshardt, Channing Bosshardt, Tayli Bosshardt; and Kayla Vest; sisters-in-law: Elaine Allred of Salina and Carol Lee Allred of Murray; brother-in-law, Keith Barrett of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Byron Allred and Lowell Allred; a sister: Vanesse Barrett and a son-in-law: Larry Bosshardt.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, located at 85 S. 100 E. in Salina. Friends called for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and again Monday morning from 10:30-11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 was in the Redmond Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
