Cloatee McCallum Cole Hairston was born February 2, 1948, to Charles "Bill" McCallum and Leona V. Donald McCallum in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI.

On November 18, 1967, she married Albert Leroy Cole, the son of Frank Cole and Fannie Rush Cole, who was a native of DeKalb, Kemper County, MS, and their union were blessed with four children, three daughters and one son.

After Leroy's death, on October 23, 1999, she later married Dennis Hairston, a native of Columbus, Lowndes County, MS, and they had no children, but she was the step mother of three step children, all step sons.

In 1977, she accomplished her goal of receiving her high school diploma as an honor graduate at the age of 29 at West Kemper High School in DeKalb, MS. She furthered her studies at Meridian Junior College in Meridian, MS.

She made history in Kemper County, MS, when she became the First Female as well as the First African-American Female to work as Dispatcher and Deputy Sheriff for the Kemper County Sheriff Department. She worked there for fourteen years. She moved to Columbus, Lowndes County, MS, and worked for the Lowndes County Sheriff Department.

During her youth, she joined Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS, and later joined New Hope United Methodist Church, also in DeKalb, MS. After relocating to Columbus, MS, she joined Shiloh Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church.

She died January 14, 2008, at the age of 59.

She was the Wife of Albert Leroy Cole and Dennis Hairston; the Mother of Jacqueline "Jackie" Cole Wade Toplin, William Douglas Cole, Kristi Cole Rankins, and Trebla Yorel Cole Bennett; the Step Mother of three step sons; the Daughter of Charles "Bill" McCallum and Leona V. Donald McCallum; the Sister of Thomas McCallum and Addie Lee McCallum; the Paternal Granddaughter of John McCallum and Sebelle Welch McCallum; and the Maternal Granddaughter of James "Jim" Donald and Winnie Cullum Donald.
