Charles W. Yantz was born in South Burlington, Vermont, October 7, 1914, to Walter C. and Sarah (Prior) Yantz. In 1932, Charles graduated from Hinesburg High School.

In 1936, Charles and his friend, Wallace McNeil, traveled 7,540 miles by car from Charlotte to the West Coast and back seeing the sights. They saw the results of the drought in Nebraska, evidenced by the dried and dead corn crop. They drove over the new Trail Ridge road in the Rocky Mountain National Park where the maximum elevation was 12,183 feet, through Salt Lake City, and the Bonneville Salt Flats. They saw Lake Tahoe and Yosemite Park. They crossed Death Valley by night, saw Boulder Dam and the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. The power from Boulder Dam had only been started the day before they visited. They saw temperatures from 18 degrees at Tioga Pass in California to 104 degrees near Bakersfield, California.

In an evening ceremony, on June 15, 1939, Charles married Edith C. Clough in the manse of the First Congregational Church in Burlington.

Charlie and Edith lived in Burlington for a couple years, then bought a house in Hinesburg. Charles drove a 7-Up truck for a while, then worked at the Ethan Allen Creamery in Essex Junction, from which he retired. They also bought a farm in Colchester, where they lived for several years, before moving to St. George.

Charles had been a member of the Champlain Choristers, and was a member of the Rocky Ridge Country Club, and the United Church of Hinesburg.

Charles died February 29, 1976, following a long illness. He was survived by his wife, and three daughters. He was also survived by his mother, his three brothers, Warren, Douglas, and Allen, and his sister, Hilda. He was predeceased by his father, and an infant daughter.

The funeral was held at the United Church of Hinesburg.
