Joseph King was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and served as a Ruling Elder in this church for 36 years. The Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Session Minutes recorded his death: "He was a sincere and earnest Christian; an active, faithful and efficient elder; and a kind hearted, amiable and benevolent man. He loved to do good, and every worthy object which appealed to him for aid and sympathy found in him a friend and helper...For many years, he taught the Young Ladies' Bible class and was for some time Superintendent of the School at the Church' and was also Superintendent of the Pittstown Sabbath School for several years, during which it was exceedingly prosperous."
