Vernon M. Cumberland, Aug. 18, 1912 - Dec. 4, 1995, Vernon M. CUMBERLAND, 83, 753 South Indiana 19 North, Akron, died at 2:40 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital. He was born in Peru to Walter and Blanche HANSON CUMBERLAND. On April 24, 1931, he married Mariam HUDKINS, who died on Oct. 14, 1980. On Oct. 25, 1981, he married Virginia HEDGER, who survives. He was a farmer and owned and operated Akron Insurance Agency. He was a 1931 graduate of Beaver Dam School, and a member of Rochester Masonic Lodge and Akron United Methodist Church. He was a Henry Township Trustee for two terms, served under Gov. Bowen on the State Insurance Commission and was a State Appraiser, and served as Akron Town Clerk for one term. Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Max (Shirley) RISNER, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Walter Delmar CUMBERLAND, Rochester; and Robert and wife Sondra CUMBERLAND, Akron; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Eldon (Mary) HORN, Warsaw; three brothers, Warren and wife Nadine CUMBERLAND, Bourbon; Loren and wife Betty CUMBERLAND, Claypool; and George "Dick" and wife Dorothy CUMBERLAND, Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were four brothers and two sisters. Services will be at 10:30 a.m Thursday at the Akron United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Maurice KESSLER and Mark BERG officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Memorials may be made to the Akron United Methodist Church.
