From the Rutland Daily Herald, Jan. 28, 1904:
Patrick Fagan died at his home on Granger street at 10:15 o'clock yesterday morning from a complication of diseases. Mr. Fagan was born in New Boston, county Clare, Ireland, about 58 years ago and was brought to this country and to Rutland when five years of age. He enlisted in company H, 2d Minnesota volunteers in July 1861, and served until the end of the war. Besides his wife, Mr. Fagan is survived by four sons, John and Henry Fagan of Buffalo, N.Y., and James and Peter Fagan of this city. Mr. Fagan was a member of Roberts post, No. 14, Grand Army of the Republic.

Patrick Fagan, aged 58, and Matthew A. Ryan, aged 61, were born in the same place in Ireland, and came to this country together 50 years ago. Their children have been intimate friends since. They died within 15 minutes of each other in Rutland last week, both from complications of diseases.
