Consort of E Patterson
It needs to be noted here, the term consort if not always derogatory, many of us that work in genealogy are aware of the true meaning. I am putting it in the bio of this memorial because of a note left.

Consort definition, noun, a husband or wife; spouse.

Wife of J A Patterson
she was re-interred from the Old City Cemtery to Hazelwood.

Greene County Missouri Cemeteries Volume IX by Ozarks Genealogical Society Page 217 - 218 - 219.
All people were supposed to be moved from this cemetery. It is now closed. Replaced by residences and parking lot. City ordinance # 317 September 8, 1881 misdemeanor to bury any corpse in the old graveyard on Campbell St. In 1883 the cemetery committee instructed to reinter all bodies now remaining. Seems many years later bones were still being found.
August 5, 1883 page 4 Springfield Daily Herald printed a list of stones found. Some of these was moved, have been listed in other cemeteries. I have noted on my copy of these pages what cemetery they were found and where. Also noted on my copy which of these people does not show up on Findagrave or any cemeteries in the area that I know of.
Someone must know where these folks were moved to. Majority of those were put in Hazelwood City Cemetery, Maple Park Cemetery. Others were most likely transferred by living relatives somewhere else. Or maybe this list on those pages were those that did not have any family left to move them. The cemetery committee had to have it done.
Problem with cemeteries not all bodies can be moved. There would have been people buried there that did not have a monument, or there was not family left that knew where they were. There are those people that take monuments for reasons as placing it in their yard for personal reasons.
My condolences to family for those that have not been found, or named. Not anyone left to miss or tell. Except for the genealogists of the world, both professional and family hobbyist

A check with the cemetery office and they did not show there was this lady there, with those dates. Using the book I found her in we went to the lot that she is listed on, page 503 Greene County Missouri Cemeteries. Hazelwood Cem. by Ozarks Genealogy. This cemetery was read back in the '90's and the stones would have been more readable, we dug this stone out of grass and mud. It was mostly coverd, by the time we were finished it appeared to be about 3 and in some cases 4 inches of it buried. I did not think to get a before and after shot, but there was not much showing.
Thanks to Kayla of the Greg and Kayla photo vol. team she stopped by with some water and foil to help show this stone for the family.
All tolled our family spent about 2 hours digging these out of the ground, with our little garden hand digger. We did not have a shovel with us. Kayla spent about 30 minutes on using foil for rubbing and water, then scrub and dry.
I had been in the cemetery a few days before and could not find her, but the weather rain and just did not want to stay with the sprinkling and breeze. Today very sunny and nice.

There is problems with finding some people in lot 443 that I have listed and taken pictures of the monuments. The cemetery does not have some of these listed. Johns monument was completly underground.

In the 1990's Ozarks Genealogical Society read the Hazelwood Cemetery, and finished with some addtionals up to 2005 added in before printing. This is where I got the information for these people. Some of them you may find the cemetery does not have any record of. Removal of the bodies from the "Old City Cemtery" at Campbell & State North Springfield Cemetery at Campbell & Atlantic and other burial plots were done after an ordinance was passed that declared it was detrimental to the health of inhabitants of the city to bury dead bodies within the limits. March 10, 1888 it passed. Many of the bodies were re-interred in Hazelwood Cemetery.

These stones were read by the Ozarks Genealogical Society and monuments are in lot 443. I have photographed them, and they are preserved on findagrave. Should you call in now, you may hear the office tell you stone/monument only. At this time no paper work indicates some of these were ever moved physcially. Maybe it was just the stones.

Here is the listed folks. Please visit each of these and please leave a flower for them.

Cemetery personell personally helped, and dug out John C Ward monument, it was completly covered there would not be a clue there was a stone there had it not been for the book. I just went in the office told them where he was located, how I knew the information, and where the stone might be found. I would like to acknowledge the office staff was right there taking care of it. You could not ask for a better group of people. They will take the walk with you the extra mile when asked. This same book please note there have been many errors found in it. So please do not think I am saying these are there, or the physical remains are there.
There may be some plans in the workings to uncover those other 10 stones even if illegible but do not know if it will be done in time for Memorial Day Weekend 2012. At least now that they know about them they are going to have something done.

The staff certainly wished the information was in the books, but unable to change, yet they would have liked to know if they were there or if stones only were moved, and it sure would have been nice to have the records or at least some notes if stones were going to be placed.
