Monday Morning



Funeral services for Joseph W, Riley, 64, well known local resident took place from the Immaculate Conception church Monday morning, Rev. Fr. Louis J. Kelley officiated at the mass. Interment was made in the cemetery.
The death of Joseph W. Riley occurred Thursday morning July 6, 1944 and was attributed to a heart attack, however he had been ailing he past five weeks but apparently was recovering thus his sudden death came as a shock to famliy members and friends.
A native of Scotland, the deceased was born January 10, 1880, a son of James and Mary Crawford Riley. At the age of five years he came to this country with his parents and lived all of his life here in Osceola Mills. He was the last of his generation.
Mr. Riley has been associated in the coal business practically all of his life in this area. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivng family members include his widow, the former Miss Agnes Hughes whom he married June 20, 1907, and the following son and daughter: Lt. James R. Riley who is with the American forces in Australia; Mary, wife of F.J. Beezer, Philipsburg, Helen, wife of F. D. Kloecker and Betty Riley, all of Erie. Lieut. Clare Riley, a daughter was killed while on duty in North Africa on July 1, 1944.
