In 1924, Sophia's sister, Rosa, married Guy's brother, Edward. This made their children double cousins. Just 10 years later, in 1934, Sophia and Guy opened their home to Rosa and her daughter, Dora, after Edward's untimely death from tuberculosis. Rosa and Dora lived there for the next ten years.
In Novemeber of 1949, Sophia's son Cecil was hit by a car on the main street of Brunswick and did not survive the accident. Eight months later in July of 1950, Sophia's husband of 30 years succumbed to tuberculosis and passed away. Sophia never remarried and remained in Brunswick for those last eight years of her life.
