Geraldine Wadsworth Rowley returned home to the tender mercies of her Heavenly Father Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, as a result of congestive heart failure caused by muscular dystrophy.

She was born July 19, 1938, in Las Vegas, a daughter of Glenn L. and Veda Brockbank Wadsworth.

She spent her childhood in Las Vegas, graduating from Las Vegas High School in 1956. She spent the next year attending Darrell's Beauty College in Salt Lake City. During this time, she lived in the Beehive House, which was an experience she always cherished. She later attended the spring and summer quarter at BYU in 1958.

Geraldine was introduced to her sweetheart, Vernon Conrad "Con" Rowley, by some special friends, and after a year-long courtship and a Valentine's Day engagement, married him in the St. George Temple April 12, 1960.

Seven children blessed their marriage. Geraldine and Con have lived in Mesa/Scottsdale, Ariz., Boulder City, Provo/Orem, Utah, Las Vegas, Carson City, and St. George, Utah.

Blessed with many talents, Geraldine had a very special interest in music throughout her life. She began taking piano lessons when she was four years old and continued that study for 12 years, actually serving as ward organist before she turned 13. She was a very talented pianist and organist. In school, she played clarinet in the band and often accompanied various school productions on the piano. In church, she frequently held music-related callings, including ward organist and ward choir director. She was particularly known as the most skilled accompanist that many had ever heard.

She liked to make things beautiful, and enjoyed decorating her home and doing crafts. She especially loved oil painting. When muscular dystrophy affected her ability to perform these talents, she developed new talents by using the computer to do genealogy work. Genealogy was very dear to her heart.

She was a descendant of early Utah pioneers who came in 1856, with the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony and faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ helped her through times of adversity. This testimony was expressed through the way she lived her life. Geraldine was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, and friend.

She met life's challenges with optimism, grace, and dignity. She was a great listener and storyteller. Her loved ones look forward to the day that they will see her smile again.

She is survived by her husband, Con of St. George, Utah; seven children, Vynette (Kirk) Arnell of Gresham, Ore., Derek (Genine) Rowley of St. George, Utah, Trevor (Kristen) Rowley of Reno, Karis (Jocelyn) Rowley of Cheyenne, Wyo., Quinten (Jillyn) Rowley of Hemet, Calif., Rachelle (James) Miller of St. George, Utah, and Camille (Matthew) Campbell of St. George, Utah; 19 grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Veda; and her brother, Larry David Wadsworth.

The family wishes to thank all those who have assisted in caring for Geraldine throughout the years, with special thanks to Janice and Lynette at Southern Utah Home Care, Wendy and Jennifer at Hospice Alliance, and Dr. Madsen and Dr. Nimer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Utah Headquarters, 4578 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84117.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Washington Fields Stake Center, 3285 South 770 West, Washington, UT 84780, with the first viewing Monday, Feb. 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, and the second viewing Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Stake Center.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. (Nevada time) at the Panaca Cemetery, Panaca. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
