Arthur P. Kunkel and Miss Margaret Rodesch were united in marriage at St. Mary's church at Remsen on Tuesday morning, September 28, at 8 o'clock, Rev. Shulte, officiating.

After the wedding ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents, at which a large number of relatives were present. The dining room was decorated in the colors of the bride, pink and white. The tables were decorated with smilax. The bride was attired in a white dress of French lace and georgette and wore a veil and carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Edward Kunkel, a brother of the groom was best man. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Rodesch, of Remsen, and is a popular young lady and has a large circle of friends in her community. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A Kunkel, of Le Mars, and is a popular young man. They left on a honeymoon trip Wednesday for Garretson, Alexander and Mitchell, S.D. and Adrian, Minn. The bride wore a traveling suit of navy blue tricotine with hat and gloves to match. They received many valuable presents. The bride received a pearl necklace which was a gift of the groom. The table waiters were Misses Agnes Kunkel, a sister of the groom, Elizabeth Wittkop, a cousin of the bride, Henrietta Rolling and Marcella Rolling, friends of the couple. The couple will make their home on a farm owned by the groom's father, southeast of Le Mars.

Margaret Kunkel

Margaret Kunkel, 79, Remsen native and lifelong resident, died Monday (June 30, 1980) at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church in Remsen. Rev. Richard Birdsall will officiat and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral home.

Margaret Rodesch was born Oct. 29, 1900, at Remsen to George and Mary Niggianim Rodesch. She married Arthur Kunkel Sept. 28, 1920, at Remsen. The couple lived and farmed in the Le Mars and Remsen area. They retired and moved into Remsen in 1958. Mr. Kunkel died Jan. 10, 1978.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, John, Jim, Joe, George and Tony and a sister in infancy.

Mrs. Kunkel had lived at Happy Siesta nursing home in Remsen since Dec. 5, 1979.

She was a member of St. Mary's church and Christian Mother's society.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and Donald, both of Remsen; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Theresa) Arens and Mrs. Frank (Catherine) Roling, both of Remsen, and Mrs. Harry (Mary) Steckler of Yankton, S.D.

REMSON, Iowa -- Mrs. Arthur Kunkel, 79, of Remsen died Monday at a Le Mars hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The Rev. Richard Birdsall will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Rosaries will be recited today at 3 p.m. by the Christian Mothers and at 8 p.m. by the parish at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kunkel, the former Margaret Rodesch, was born Oct. 29, 1900, in Remsen. She married Arthur Kunkel Sept. 28, 1920, in Remsen. The couple lived and farmed in the Le Mars and Remsen areas. They retired and moved into Remsen in 1958. Mr. Kunkel died Jan. 10, 1978, in Remsen.
