Alexander was the son of Allsaints Laffra and Bessette dit Laforge. He married Ellen DuChene April 4, 1847, in China Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. Alex and Ellen made their home in St. Clair (city), Michigan, where he was a laborer and worked in a sawmill, although in 1860 Alex tried his hand at farming in Columbus Township. Alex and Ellen were the parents of Oliver, Mary, Josephine, Ellen, Minnie and Elizabeth.
