US Congressman. After studying as a youth in England, he returned to Maryland and engaged in farming. He studied law and was admitted to the bar. He was a member of the committee of correspondence for St. Mary's County during the Revolution. Elected to the second Congress from Maryland, he served from 1791 to 1793. He was the cousin of Philip Barton Key, also a Congressman.
