John Fuquay and his many brothers and sisters were brought to this area in 1817 by their parents, Isom Fuquay and Rutha Lout, who were married August 17, 1800 in Bullitt County, Ky., where John was born September 9, 1808.
On August 31, 1830 John took as his bride, Independence Elliot, the daughter of Chester and Abigail Elliot, and to them were born George who married Mary Ann James, Juliet who married Joshua F. Roberts and Independence "Penda" who married Walter Watkins. The mother died and on Christmas day in 1837 he married for a second time to Calista Castle Bostwick. The children of this marriage were Ira Bostwick Fuquay who married Sarah E. Roberts, David Norman Fuquay who married Mary Jane Marts, Elial Curtis Fuquay who married Louisa Hawkins, Zerelda Polly Fuquay who married John Perry Holder and Stephen Evolin Fuquay who married Martha M. Lenn.
