Born Robert Reginald Rosburg, he was raised in San Francisco and took a liking to golf at an early age. During his collegiate years at Stanford University, he played played baseball in addition to golf and in 1953, he launched his pro golf career. After retiring in 1972, he went on to become a longtime analyst of golf broadcasts with ABC. At the time of his death from a fall at his home, he had been battling cancer.
