James Pelot was born on a plantation near the Euhaw River in SC in 1743. He died on Amelia Island, FL in the year of 1824. His documented proof of service in the Revolutionary War was that he served as a Petit Juror and furnished beef to the army. Family members believe he and his wife were buried in this cemetery as Pelot descendant married into the Vaughan family, yet other family members believe that he was buried on his own plantation which is near the Amelia Island Airport today. If he and his wife are buried here, they were buried in the Vaughan Cemetery before the Vaughan family were buried there.

According to the documentation on Family Search, his date of birth should be corrected to: 18 Jan 1744.
