Suicide, Mrs. Harry Burton
One of the most horrible tradgedies that has ever been brought to our notice happened last Thursday, January 11, 1917, between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m., when Mrs Harry Burton, who had been living with Mr. Burton and family on the Walter Ryan farm, went to her home which is about one half mile from the Ryan house and after writing a note, leaving it on the table, took the kerosene can and went to the toilet, saturating her clothing with kerosene and setting fire to them, which completely cremated the body, so much so that only a few pieces could be gathered up.
County Attorney C L Brattin and Sheriff Fred Sullivan were immediately notified, and came here summoning six men as a jury and all proceeding to the scene where an inquest was held and the verdict was as stated above. What remains that could be gathered up were taken on Saturday to the cemetery here and buried.
The deceased leaves a husband and five children.
