Effort Wayne Akers Jr., 82, of 3035 Lee Highway, Pulaski, died Thursday, June 23, 1994 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born in Blacksburg on Sept. 29, 1911, he was the son of the late Effort Wayne Akers Sr. & Alice Spradlin Akers. He was retired from Pulaski Furniture and was preceded in death by five brothers, Clinton Akers, Fred Akers, Earl Akers, Robert Akers and Guy Akers; and a sister, Virginia Cupp Bertha Woods. Surviving are his wife, Opal Phillips Akers of Pulaski; two daughters & sons-in-law, Thelma Jean & Arnold Anderson and Jo Dot & Wilburn Venable, all of Pulaski; two grandchildren & grandchildren-in-law, Debbie & Dean Mabry and Joey & Gloria Venable, all of Dublin; four great grandchildren, Danielle Venable and Tangle Mabry, both of Dublin, Sean Venable of Waterloo, SC and Eric Venable of Macon, GA. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Matt Showalter officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, is in charge of arrangements.
