Obituary of George Ohr, Sr. as it appeared in the Daily Herald dated July 8, 1904:

"The venerable George Ohr, Sr., father of the art potter, aged 83 years died suddenly this morning at 11 o'clock. He was apparantly in his usual state of health a short time before his death, but was found in his bed by one of his grandchildren dressed in his clothes. He laid down complaining of a slight pain in his chest and never awoke to this world. Mr Ohr came to Biloxi in 1852. He was a blacksmith by trade and is said to have shod the first horse on which shoes were put in this city. He was born in Alsace(?), now a province of Germany, and came to America when still a young man. He leaves two sons, George and August, and one daughter who lives in Gretna and a number of grandchildren. His aged wife also survives him. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 1(or 4) o'clock.

year of birth was calculated by subtracting stated age of 83 from date of death in 1904. Year of birth could very well have been 1820 vs 1821
