Believed to have been the illegitimate son of Captain John PIGOTT (possibly died in Dublin, December 1763, late of Antigua, Dublin and Stradbally, M.P. for the Borough of Banagher - but perhaps more likely to have been instead his first cousin, a son of Major Walter PIGOTT of Antigua), by Hester HILLCOCK (daughter of Barnaby HILLCOCK, Vintner and Cock-fighting Pit proprietor of Cork Hill, Dublin); grandson of John PIGOTT ; probably raised by his mother (she died in 1794), with his step siblings, the children of his step-father Peter DECYX, Silk Throwster of Dublin (he died in June 1763); probably the Land Carriage Officer, Customs and Excise Department of the Revenue, Dublin, who was superannuated, 14 December 1824, aged 64, after 20 years service; resided 2 Grafton Lane (now Lemon Street), 1806-1815, then at 11 Charlotte Street, South Dublin from 1823.
John was married at St Catherine's Parish Church, Dublin, 3 December 1793, to Mary VICKERS (daughter of Joseph VICKERS, Silk Weaver of Dublin).
He died at his residence, 11 Charlotte Street, Dublin South.
Of his issue not yet recorded for lack of burial details were:
1. Elizabeth PIGOTT; died an infant.
2. Joseph PIGOTT; hairdresser and perfumer of Cork; died in Cork; married Ellen RUMLEY, with issue.
3. Mrs Susanna KELLY; lived in Dublin; death details not yet discovered; wife of Charles Aylmer KELLY; issue.
A family pedigree submitted by his grandson William Jackson PIGOTT was published in HOWARD and CRISP's "Modern Visitation of Ireland" in 1895, Volume 2, page 94, in which it is stated that John had made an earlier marriage by which he had several children who died young; however, none of this has yet been corroborated.
