He was elected to the Henry County Council in 1902 for a 4 year term. The members were paid $10.00/year.
Presley Jackson was born in Duck Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana. He had two brothers who also fought in the Civil War. One brother, Andrew, was a Sergeant in Company K, 47th IVI. His other brother Martin was a member of Company G, 75th Indiana. Those two brothers are buried in the Mississippi River (Memphis) National Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee.

Presley and Elizabeth's son, Edward L. Jackson, was governor of the state of Indiana 1925-1929.

Presley E. Jackson, age 73, died at this home in Kennard at 3 a.m. Sunday, after a long period of ill health. He is survived by a widow and five children, Capt. Ed Jackson, U.S.A., Calvin Jackson of Mulberry, James Jackson of Seymour, Charles Jackson and Mrs. Nina Woods of Oklahoma.
He was a member of the G.A.R. and of the Greensboro Masonic lodge. He had been a resident of Kennard for many years, but spent several years in Newcastle. He was one of the county's best known citizens and had a wide acquaintance. He was at one time a member of the county council of Henry county.
The funeral occurred at the home at 1 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Franklin and the Masonic order officiating. Interment at the Hess cemetery, near Cadiz.
