Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted on December 13, 1861 as a Private in Company K, 47th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to full Corporal and mustered out on Decembe 12, 1864. He had two sons also in the Civil War, Martin and Andrew. Both were killed and are buried at the Mississippi River (Memphis) National Cemetery.
