Officer Raymond M. Hacker, a Police Officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, who was currently assigned to the 3Rd District, at the Lynch Street station, was struck by two automobiles at 7Th Street and Carroll Avenue. Officer Hacker was directing traffic around downed power lines during a lightning storm on 06/05/1948. The accident happened at 8:58 PM.
Officer Hacker was rushed to City Hospital where he succumbed to severe head injuries 5 days later.
He left to mourn his passing his wife Margaret of the home located at 4306 Gertrude Avenue, and their four young children; Raymond 12 years old, Marilyn 8 1/2 years old, David 4 1/2 years old, and Kathleen 1 1/2 years old.
Raymond M. Hacker was the son of Martin N. Hacker & Ida Edith (nee Harder) Hacker. He was the sixth child of seven children.
He married Margaret Selma Baltz on November 21, 1935, in Union, which is in Franklin County Missouri.
Officer Hacker was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II.
The wake for Officer Hacker was at the J. L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home located at 7027 Gravois. Burial took place at Sunset Memorial Park on 06/14/1948.

Patrolman Raymond Hacker of the Lynch Street District died at City Hospital today of injuries suffered Saturday when he was struck by two automobiles while rerouting traffic around live wires blown down at Seventh and Carroll Streets.
Patrolman Hacker was struck by automobiles driven by Ernie C. Ball, 2724 McNair Avenue, and Warren Lee Colyer, 4641 Washington Avenue.
Both drivers were held on bond pending an inquest. Ball told police he was driving south on Seventh during the night storm and did not see Hacker in time to avoid the accident. As Ball swerved toward the curb he struck Colyer's automobile headed in the opposite direction."
