My Grandfather, Edward Pellew Arthur, was raised in Everton, Lancashire, farmed for five years on the Isle of Man and then spent five years in Queensland, Australia, managing a sheep station. He returned to England and married his first wife Sarah (Sally) Morris on 14 Mar 1888 in Edgebaston, Warwick, England. He next managed an estate in Scotland for five years where their first four children, Catharine (Kate) Frances, Edward (Ed) Pellew, Sarah Morris and Elizabeth (Bessie), were born. Little Sarah died there and in 1872 they emigrated to Colorado where they eventually had seven more children, Hamilton (Ham), Reginald (Reg) Stephen, Thomas Morris, William, Pellew, Mary Sarah and Harold (Had) John. After a brief stay in Jefferson County they settled in Park Co. where he took up ranching and was a partner in the Bank of Alma. In 1893 they moved to Cripple Creek where he was a banker and later mayor. Sarah died 10 Jan 1898 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Canon City, Colorado. In 1899 he married another English woman, Louise. C. W. Barrett, my grandmother. While living in Cripple Creek, Colorado, they had three Children, Grace Louise, Frederic (Fred) Howard and Charles Carter, my father. After moving to Canon City about 1904 where he was Clerk of the District Court, in 1923 he retired at age 85 and they moved to Eagle Rock, California.
