The Rev. Ray E. Albaugh, 82, of 522 Forest Ave., Jamestown, N.Y. went to be with the Lord at 1:25 a.m. Friday (March 20, 2009) at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
An area resident most of his life, he was born October 20, 1926 in Clarendon, Pa., the son of the late Marion and Mae Salladae Albaugh.
He was a graduate of Warren Area High School, SUNY at Fredonia and attended Wesley Seminary. He served in the U.S. Army, C.E. during World War II.
In earlier years he had been employed at the New Process in Warren for ten years and then for 31 years as a United Methodist minister, serving in the South/Hamlet, the Panama/Watts Flats, the Ripley, the Findley Lake, the Andover/Greenwood, the Gowanda, the Lyndonville and the Cattaraugus/ Wesley United Methodist Churches. The part of his ministry he especially enjoyed was the music, directing or singing in the choirs and playing the piano.
Following his retirement from the active ministry in 1989 he did substitute teaching in several area middlesenior high schools. He had been a member of the Gowanda Lions Club and the Lyndonville Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Albaugh, whom he married March 26, 2005 in the Town of Busti; a son, Deane (Jennifer) Albaugh of Sherrill, N.Y.; two daughters, Diane (David) Miller of Jamestown and Lori Albaugh of Albion, N.Y.; four step children, Joseph (Juanita) Brown of Bemus Point, Virginia (Dennis) Dorman of Hamburg, N.Y., Rick (Michelle) Brown of Sinclairville, N.Y. and Tammy Brown of Gulf Port, Miss.; six grandchildren, Stacy Schaeffer of Austin, Texas, Shawn Whitney of Frewsburg, N.Y., Shannon Cole of Cary, N.C., Christine Lyttle of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Drew Albaugh of New Hartford, N.Y., and Matthew Albaugh of Boston, Mass., a step granddaughter, Chelsea Armlin of Sherrill, N.Y.; 12 step grandchildren; a greatgranddaughter, Holly Schaeffer of Austin, Texas; 3 step greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Albaugh of Elizabethtown, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian L. Fox Albaugh, whom he married December 23, 1945 in the Russell United Methodist Church, Russell, Pa., who died December 16, 2003; three brothers, Merle, Marion and Alvin Albaugh; and a sister, Beulah Lauffer.
