Preston Goble died February 17, 1979 in the Fort Bragg hospital. Known as Sam, he was born in Ferndale (March 9, 1908) and lived in Fort Bragg more than 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II and owned the Welcome Inn in Fort Bragg for 15 years. His wife, Virginia Goble, died (October 24, 1978). A son, Leslie Goble, and a daughter, Joni Goble, both of Fort Bragg, and a brother, Leslie W. Goble of Sacramento, survived
