CIVIL WAR UNION VETERAN: CO. F, HATCHES MINNESOTA CAVALRY.

William Senescall traveled from England in 1849 and was one of the first in this Senescall line to come to America.

While living in Michigan he met, and on Jan 1 1851 married Mary Eda Mayo. In 1853 they came to St Paul, MN then known as White Bluff. Later they farmed in Dakota County, MN until 1864.

At the age of 37 he enlisted with Co. F Hatches Minnesota Cavalry, as a farrier; and remained in service until mustering out in 1866.

1880 finds them buying a home in Steward, McLeod County, MN. He bought a hotel and operated it for 12 yrs. William owned land near the village and kept fancy horses. The McLeod County Fair Premium lists several events under William's name.

William and Mary then moved to Glenco, MN where he helped establish the first school. He was also one of the founders of the creamery.

William and Mary had, eight children, one died in infancy.
