Mary Almira Allen was born in Marshall co., Ill., Jan 13, 1838. She emigrated to Taylor county, Ia., in August, 1857, and was married to Samuel Gaunt March 30, 1859. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of which still survive to mourn their loss. A few appropriate remarks were made by Elder Wm Cobb of Bedford, at the residence, after which the remains were interred in the Siam cemetery, Feb 7th.
Resolved: That we, the members of Plum Lodge No 285, A.F. & A.M. of Siam, Iowa, tender to Brother Gaunt and family our fraternal sympathy in this their sad bereavement. Be it resolved: That a copy be presented the stricken family and sent to the Taylor County Democrat and Times Republican for publication. Fred branson, W.T. Allen, A.M. Johnson, committee.
