David was the son of John and Martha Todd Lunn Eaton. This John Eaton was the son of Joseph Eaton, who was the son of John Eaton, who came to America for religious freedom in 1686 and was a founding member of the Pennepack Baptist Church.

He was married to Mary Parnel Eaton who was killed after being captured by Indians. He later married Elizabeth Razor Eaton. He and Mary were parents of James, Joseph, George, Mary, Thomas, Martha and infant son Eaton.

He served in the Revolutionary War in the 8th Batallion of the Pennsylvania Militia under Colonel James Johnson.
