Dr. Peggy M. Gottwalles, 79, became an optometrist in 1976
Dr. Peggy M. "Mimi" Abner Gottwalles, 79, of Columbus, formerly of North Vernon, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at her home.
A graveside service was conducted Saturday at New Providence Cemetery near Austin with the Rev. Barbara Grace officiating. Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home of Columbus was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gottwalles was an optometrist, graduating from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1976. She enjoyed antiques, spending time with her family, shopping, gardening, doing yard work and fishing.
Born in Kentucky March 19, 1928, she was the daughter of Willis and Clara Rice Abner.
Survivors include a son, William E. Gottwalles of Columbus; a daughter, Carol A. Donnell of North Vernon; grandchildren, Julie Stattenfield and Lindsey Gottwalles, Kelbi Donnell and Taulby Donnell of North Vernon; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Dr. Gardner Abner of Logansport, Dr. Linton Abner of Florida and Elisha Abner of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Effie Miller, and brothers, Charles, Taulbee and Dr. J.B. Abner.
