Son of a Methodist Preacher, Rev. John "Calvin" Booth of Scipio, Cayuga Co., NY, and his wife Typhena Perkins Booth, Smith was a farmer and undertaker. His son-in-law, Marvin Williams, a carpenter, made the casket, and Smith would hold the funeral. They lived in Virgil, NY. Lineage: Smith 6, J. Calvin 5, Gideon 4, John 3&2, Richard 1 Booth of Bowden, Cheshire, England, early settler of Stratford, Conn.
