Son of Nathan Foos and Mary Ann Seckle.

Married Rebecca Collins, nee Dorsey, a widow with two young sons (William and Josiah). By his wife, George W. Foos was the father of nine children, six of which lived past the age of 18.

Farmed on what is now Linn Hipsher Road, west of Pole Lane Road.

Now for the hard facts. He was not a man known for charity or kindness. Unlike his father whose kindness towards others was well known, George Foos was what we now call miserly, and a spousal abuser, and a mean drunk. He also assaulted his wife's young sons Johnny, and Josiah Collins to the point where both ran away from home. She stayed with this husband because few options existed for a woman in the 1870s. Suffice it to say that when George Foos died, he was mourned by few, missed by fewer and left his wife and surviving children destitute. His is not a legacy to be admired. Thankfully, his children took after their mother and married kind-hearted people.

Died in Marion County Ohio on October 14, 1899.

Note: I have received requests to change Mr. Foos' middle name on Find A Grave to "Washington" however I have been unable to find any primary source records that verify that as an actual name. I am willing to change the name, but I need something other than a county history mention.
