Served in the American Civil War. 2nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry Company D, Corporal. Died at St. Louis MO of wounds received 15 Feb 1862 at Fort Donelson TN (wounded in right leg and left temple)

"Andrew Slatten, an eccentric young lawyer of East Des Moines, and at one time Justice of the Peace in Lee Township, died of wounds received at Donelson, during the latter part of April, 1862. His remains lie beside those of Weeks and Doty in Woodland Cemetery."

28 at the time of enlistment on 5/4/61 in Co. D, 2nd Iowa Infantry. He was mustered in on 5/27/61. Andrew was wounded in the right leg and temple at Fort Donelson, Tn. 2/15/62, and died at St. Louis, Mo.
